West Ham United are mourning the death of club legend Ludek Miklosko, who passed away at the age of 64. The former goalkeeper and coach died following a long battle with cancer.
His son Martin announced the news, thanking supporters and the club for their support throughout his father's illness. "We are heartbroken to announce the passing of my Dad Ludek, following a brave and courageous battle with cancer," he said.
West Ham United issued a statement honouring their former player. "Rest in peace Ludek, our beloved, inspirational goalkeeper and gentle giant of a man," the club said.
Miklosko made many appearances for the Hammers after joining from Banik Ostrava, keeping numerous clean sheets across several seasons. He is fondly remembered for a series of saves against Manchester United that famously denied Alex Ferguson's side the Premier League title. The Czech international also earned caps for his country, playing at the World Cup, before ending his playing career with Queens Park Rangers.
After retiring, he returned to West Ham to serve as the club's goalkeeper coach. The club held a moment of silence before training and will honour him before a forthcoming Carabao Cup tie.
The squad will wear black armbands in Miklosko's memory for the forthcoming games.
