West Ham United's transfer woes continue to deepen as 21-year-old striker Callum Marshall becomes the latest player to leave the club this summer. Marshall joined West Ham from Linfield in January 2022 and made three competitive first-team appearances at the club. His time in East London also included loan spells with West Bromwich Albion, Huddersfield Town, and VfL Bochum, alongside a number of friendly appearances.

What happened to Callum Marshall?

Marshall will now work under Luton Town manager Jack Wilshire, who told the club's official website how delighted he was to secure the striker's signature. "From the first moment I met Callum, I know how hungry he was for success," Wilshire said. Naturally, a lot of other clubs were in for him, so we're pleased that he's chosen us and that we're a club that's matching his ambition and vice-versa."

Why it matters for West Ham United

Marshall's departure is the seventh confirmed exit of the summer, while the club is yet to announce a first-team signing. The situation has increased the focus on the recruitment at the London Stadium, particularly in attack. With reports suggesting that Niclas Fullkrug could also leave the club, West Ham could be left with Pablo and Taty Castellanos as their only senior center-forward options. That would leave Nuno Espírito Santo with limited depth in attack, particularly given his preference for a two-striker formation last season.

What comes next?

West Ham are still yet to replace Crysencio Summerville, leaving the club without an established senior left winger. James Ward-Prowse has featured out wide for the majority of preseason, while Josh Ajala also getting opportunities. With the Championship season approaching, recruitment is becoming increasingly important for the Hammers. There is just nine days until the Carabao Cup first-round meeting with Portsmouth, before beginning their Championship campaign against fellow relegated side Burnley shortly afterwards.
