West Ham United midfielder Freddie Potts has completed a permanent transfer to Belgian Pro League champions Club Brugge for an undisclosed fee. The 22-year-old, who came through the Hammers' academy, made 28 first-team appearances during his 16-year stay at the club.

What happened?

Potts joined West Ham at the age of six and progressed through the youth ranks before making his senior debut in 2021. He played 22 times in the Premier League last season after a successful loan spell with Portsmouth in the Championship. The midfielder was also part of the squad that won the Europa Conference League in 2023.

Why it matters for West Ham United

Potts' departure marks the end of a long association with West Ham, where he grew up as a fan. He described the club as "all I've ever known" and cherished moments like his first-team debut against Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League. With West Ham finishing 18th in the Premier League last season (39 points, 10W-9D-19L), rebuilding the squad will be a priority.

What comes next?

Potts will now look to establish himself at Club Brugge, who are preparing for another title challenge in Belgium. Meanwhile, West Ham will focus on strengthening their midfield options ahead of the new season.
